Volunteer Time

Volunteer Time

Thank you for expressing interest in volunteering. Volunteers are a key element in the success of a school. Schools today rely on the services, expertise, and generous time and talents that volunteers provide. We welcome a variety of volunteers who enhance our students’ educational experiences.

Regular Volunteer Status

If you are planning on becoming a regular volunteer with routine visits, the Phoenix Union High School District requires, for the safety and protection of students, to follow the following guidelines: According to PUHSD Operational Procedure IJOC-OP-1, and ARS 15-341(A)(16) and 15-512(A) volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, and be a high school graduate or have earned GED credentials. Our Community Liaison, Rosa Dominguez, will be happy to assist you with the volunteer process which includes fingerprint clearance. She can be reached at: rdominguez22@phoenixunion.org or 602-764-7427.

Guest Volunteering In the Classroom

We offer many opportunities for guest volunteering. If you can fill one of the needs below, please email Program Director Danchi Nguyen at dnguyen@phoenixunion.org.

Connection with Guest Speakers

When we can’t take students on an outside learning experience, bringing in an outside speaker can often be the next best thing. Speakers that connect directly to content, connect to career/college readiness, or offer socio-emotional support and motivation are helpful in building connections to the greater community.

Help with Editing College Application Materials

Editing written work takes quality time, and we appreciate both the additional assistance as well as the benefit of gathering a variety of feedback for these important documents which will expand our students’ opportunities for their post-secondary education.

Serving as an Audience/ Evaluator for Presentations

Our students have regular presentations and having community members come in helps to provide an authentic audience for the learning experience. If you have any special expertise which will help to enhance your participation as an audience member, we would greatly appreciate your presence.

Outside the Classroom

Camelback senior with service dog

Through the work of a mentor at Camelback & K-9 Lifeline, one of our seniors was able to bring a service dog training program to our campus for her Senior Capstone Project.

Become a Mentor

Our juniors and seniors are expected to job shadow, intern, and find mentors. Having a variety of potential mentors to network with gives our students more choice in learning more about what they want their role in society to be.

Form a Business Sponsorship

Partnering with businesses can be a great help for fundraising. So far, Camelback Montessori has been able to partner with Chipotle to earn a portion of proceeds for a night’s sales and with AJs to receive free baked goods donated for fundraising. Our Montessori Club students are creative and will work with you to create a plan to help support one another.
